Now that the year is about sixty-seven percent over, it can be a good time to reflect on the music releases we have received so far in 2017 before looking ahead to what the final four months will have to offer to music lovers all around the world. We have already discussed some of the best songs to come out so now it is time to turn our attention to the best albums of the year so far. Some of the songs in the previous article may have even come from some of the following albums!
First and foremost, you have to mention the new album from New Zealand singer, Lorde, Melodrama. With fantastic deeper cuts like “The Louvre” and “Perfect Places” and chart-topping hits like “Green Light,” the album is a delight to music fans the world over. Kendrick Lamar’s highly anticipated new album, DAMN., was highly praised by both diehard fans of the rapper and even the most stoic of music critics.
The new album, Crack-Up, from Fleet Foxes take the band to a new level and provide a slew of earworms that will be adored by music fans this year. Finally, no article about albums from 2017 would be complete without mentioning Jay-Z’s answer to Beyonce’s Lemonade, 4:44. It’s been an astounding year of music and it’s not even over yet!
While there have been a myriad amount of great original albums so far this year, I would be remiss if I did not mention some albums that were released this year that are not original, but rather are soundtrack albums that compile songs we all know of. For example, the soundtrack for Beauty and the Beast has been a massive hit this year as it features the talents of Dan Stevens, Emma Watson, and Ewan McGregor, among others. The soundtracks for smash hit action movies like Baby Driver and Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 have also been wildly successful and delightful for the ear.
