Certainly, the year in music is not over yet, but as 2017 is now, with the conclusion of August, two-thirds of the way over, it is worth taking a look back at some of the best songs to grace our ears thus far. There have been many worthy anthems, any one of which would likely deserve mentioning in this list, but we are talking about the best of the best here.
Killer Mike and El-P, the duo behind Run the Jewels, released their album, RTJ3, at the end of 2016, but since it didn’t qualify for consideration on the lists of best music from 2016, it should definitely get a few mention on recapping the best for 2017. As for the individual songs off the album, the ones worthy of inclusion are “Legend Has It” and “A Report to the Shareholders/Kill Your Masters.” LCD Soundsystem is also worthy of a mention thanks to their hot track, “American Dream.” And Drake has found his way to many “best of” lists in the past, but he does so again here with his track, “Blem.” Finally, while you could pick almost any song from Lorde’s new album, Melodrama, “The Louvre” is arguably the one most worthy of inclusion.
While these songs were all worth specific mentions, you would also likely be making a safe bet if you included any songs off of the latest albums from both Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar, as almost every track on their new installments to their hip hop discographies were unquestionably winners. Any list of the best albums of the year would definitely feature both 4:44 and DAMN., but the lists of the best songs would likely be incomplete if one or two tracks from either of these albums were not included on the lists.
