Another year in music videos has come and gone and with it, the celebration of the best that this particular category of entertainment has to offer. That’s right, the annual MTV Video Music Awards commenced recently and through all of the hubbub about speeches and live musical performances, the winners can sometimes be forgotten. But not in this article! The point of the VMAs is to crown the best in various categories pertaining to the art of music videos and we will not let that be forgotten. Here are some of the big winners from the night.
The award for Song of the Summer was given to Lil Uzi Vert for his tune, “XO Tour Llif3,” beating out strong competitors like “Despacito” and “Shape of You.” The award for what the ceremony was all about, Best Music Video, was awarded to Kendrick Lamar for the music video that accompanied his song, “HUMBLE.” The award for the year’s best music artist was given to Ed Sheeran, while the trophy for the best new music artist went to Khalid, representing RCA Records.
Rounding out the major categories, the duo that voters determined was worthy of Best Collaboration was Zayn and Taylor Swift because of the song they crafted for Fifty Shades Darker, “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.”
There will be a couple more opportunities in the upcoming months for you to be able to see your favorite music stars collect some hardware again. There will be a great many award ceremonies between this year’s VMAs and the next Video Music Awards, but you will be able to see your favorite musicians in the best possible settings for the People’s Choice Awards and the Grammy Awards, which will both commence in early 2018. Perhaps even some will be performing for nominated songs at the Academy Awards, as well!
